Agricultural Engineering Activities in Chhattisgarh

Mechanisation plays very important role in the field of Agriculture. The timeliness of operation with an ease and economy are the important parameters for increased production. Intensive cultivation is only possible by using the farm-machineries. The use of improved Agricultural equipments can increase the production by 15-20 percent.

More than 50 % of the power in the state comes from animals; mechanization level needs to be increased looking to the crop diversification & multicropping programmes of the state.
Department of Agriculture-Engineering provides custom-hiring facilities to the cultivators on reasonable rates, as the small & marginal farmers can not afford to purchase the costly machines like tractors/ Dozers and the new equipments.

Following activities are being taken up by the department :-

1. Custom-hiring for Land levelling, bunding, dozing and preparation of tanks and other land improvement activities by dozers, cultivation works like seed-bed preparation, sowing, harvesting, threshing etc by departmental tractors, reapers & threshers etc.

2. Shakambhari scheme has been started in the year 2005-06 under which 75% subsidy is being given to small & marginal farmers on Diesel/electric/Kerosene pump sets (Upto 5HP) and 50% on dugwells.

3. Live-Demonstrations of improved implements/machinery for popularization of the implements amongst the farmers.

4. Popularization of mechanization is an important issue at GOI level and different crop-wise Schemes for popularizing improved Bullock/Tractor drawn implements, Power tiller, tractors and hand tools etc is being taken up. State Govt. is giving an equal additional subsidy on all the items except tractors and combine Harvester.

5. Distribution of Tractors, Power Tillers, Power/Tractor/Bullock drawn implements and Hand Tools is done by C.G. State Seed and Agri. Development Corporation and suppliers registered at state/distt. level in the deptt. of agri.

6. Training is imparted to the farmers on selection, operation and Maintenance of agricultural machinery/ implements under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna.

7. Low-lift pumps are distributed to small & marginal on 75% subsidy.

For the implementation of these programmes there are three Divisional offices at Raipur, Bilaspur & Jagdalpur along with one Tractor units at Kondagaon,. Four new Asstt. Agril. Engineer offices are at Kanker, Ambikapur, Raigarh and kabirdham
